About the Author

Clay A Johnson

Clay Johnson, not only the author of The Information Diet, is a technologist that resides in the Washington D.C. Area.  This area is incredibly important to his work as he frequently lobbies to the Federal Government, especially in areas such as the NSA, to create more government openness.  He looks to ensure that the public isn't being kept in the dark about what sort of content of theirs is examined as well as making sure that new content is readily and easily accessible to them.  In many stages of his life he worked closely in politics and was a major contributor during the 2008 Presidential Campaign for Barrack Obama.  We was a founder of a website module that worked to target campaign marketing to people on the internet.  It was at this point that he realized that there were greater challenges presenting information to the public.  He spent a lot of time in the job sifting through websites about his candidate as well as others to better gain insight as to how he should deliver positive promotions about his candidate to viewers.

Aside from Clay's experience in the political sector he also had personal motivations that skewed his views on content filtration.  Clay's mother was diagnosed with breast cancer and like any son would, he was determined to find some solutions to help her out financially with the treatments.  He spent some time doing what anyone would do, searching the internet.  His searches were almost useless as he found that filtering content was no easy feat as it was often challenging to determine what was creditable and what was not.  He was a lobbyist and he lobbied for help in the area of financial assistance, but presenting a point as to why it was necessary was another challenge he faced.  It seemed after all his searching he had reached a dead end.  If only content searches were easier to conduct.
